Hi, I'm the admin here at stream.void.garden
I'm trying to build a small, friendly community for people who make things and want a chill place to hang out
I'm modelling this community based on advice from runyourown.social
I'm someone who makes mostly digital things, generative art, interactive media, and I'm also learning about electronics and modular synthesisers
Free Clothes To A Good Home (UK/Ireland) - Intro Post
Hey there, I’m downsizing my wardrobe atm and I thought it’d be nice to run these by the fedi before dumping them on a local charity shop
These are clothes from the last decade of my life that I don’t wear anymore. Many have been sitting in my wardrobe gathering dust for years (dw I’ll clean everything before sending)
There’s no good place to picture clothes in my house with natural lighting so some of these look worse than they actually are
I started a couple games of Neptune's Pride if anyone wants to hop in
Neptune's Pride is a long-play game (apparently weeks to months for longer games) about space conquest and diplomacy
The two games I'm in are a short 8-player beginner-friendly one: https://np.ironhelmet.com/game/4922203850932224
And a longer 32-player game: https://np.ironhelmet.com/game/5475941602820096
Both are waiting for players to fill the remaining slots to get going
An easy way to make you not spend energy on understand an idea is by spreading the misconception that it will be harmful to you.
"Anarchism means no one protects you" for example. That kept me from exploring anarchism for years because as a trans person I needed safety from a violent world.
"Land back for indigenous people means displacement of everyone else" is another such bullshit claim that kept me from seriously exploring land back politics.
I barely haven't posted anything here yet, so here is something I've been doing lately.
I recently started to bought cameras on flea market.
Recently I bought my first digital one, a Mavica MVC-FD7; a late 90' camera using floppies as a storage medium.
And with the charm of this low resolution, I made a photoshop template file to transform them with my usual aesthetic.
I'm still experimenting with it, but I love it so much.
Making a file format for my game
Okay, I have a way of quickly converting world coordinates into a filepath that points to a file, or a rectangle of world into the paths of the files that contain the data
Depending on whether generation or IO is the bottleneck, I'll generate and save, or only save if players have modified map data
I also need to learn how to safely read and write files
Which right now means searching for what "atomic operations" and "mutex" means
